Barbara Orth is a Postdoc at the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space (IRS). Her research explores the nexus between immigration regulation and digitally-mediated labour, particularly in the platform economy. She is interested in feminist and critical migration approaches to understanding digital technologies and their applications. In her PhD at Freie Universität Berlin (2020-2024), she explored how temporary migration pathways interact with the gig economy model of labour. Previously, she has conducted research on queer support structures in Berlin’s labour market and labour market access for refugees and asylum seekers. She has several years of professional experience in the non-profit sector working with migrants. Barbara holds a B.A. in International Relations (University of East Anglia) and an M.Sc. in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies (University of Oxford).
