There’s only one Eckart von Hirschhausen – but online, there are a thousand versions of him. Since he’s been the face of medicine and health on ARD for 30 years and has built trust as a communicator, real people fall for the fake Hirschhausen every day.

In his #rp26 keynote, the doctor and science journalist talks about his personal research on the topic of deepfakes. In it, he takes on the deepfake mafia, wins multiple court cases, films a documentary for ARD, and finds a whistleblower in Brazil who exposes the industry’s dirty secrets. On the re:publica stage, he is joined by attorney Chan-jo Jun, who has already made legal history with the Künast case.

Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen is a physician, founder of the Healthy Earth – Healthy People Foundation, and an expert on communication regarding climate and planetary health. He has sold more than 5 million books and hosts his own TV documentaries on German public television (ARD). Hirschhausen is an honorary professor and faculty member at Charité, a member of the Sustainability Advisory Board of North Rhine-Westphalia, and a member of the Club of Rome.

Chan-jo Jun, a lawyer, filed a criminal complaint in 2015 against Facebook executives for aiding and abetting hate crimes. This, in turn, triggered an investigation and a heated debate about freedom of speech on social media. He heads a law firm in Würzburg.
