The world seems to be falling apart; things we once took for granted are crumbling at a breathtaking pace. How can Europe hold fast to its very essence in this increasingly dramatic situation? Why does the European Union have so little with which to counter this mounting pressure? And how can the EU once again rally its citizens behind the unfinished project of a united, peaceful, and strong Union?

These questions will be at the heart of the 28th WDR Europaforum, taking place from 18 to 20 May 2026 under the motto: “Hard Times, Soft Power – Europe’s Role in Global Disorder”.

The WDR Europaforum is organized by Westdeutscher Rundfunk together with Österreichischer Rundfunk, the event and documentary channel phoenix, the European Commission and the European Parliament. WDR television will broadcast the event live on all three days. It will also be available as a livestream and in the ARD media library.
