Milena Calvo Juarez Her
Action Researcher
Milena Calvo Juarez is a Brazilian creative professional and action researcher, working as a facilitator and consultant in social innovation, collective action, and open technology. With a background in Environmental Engineering and Industrial Ecology, she has been part of the research team at Fab Lab Barcelona, within the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, since 2017. Exploring the intersection of technology, design, and circular economy, she has contributed to numerous European-funded projects, co-leading the community-driven Remix El Barrio initiative, which won the European Commission’s S+T+Arts Prize 2021. In recent years, Milena has coordinated projects that emphasize the role of the creative sector and, through participatory practices, foster collaboration between designers, makers, and innovators to reimagine regenerative futures at both local and global scales. As a consultant, Milena has implemented capacity-building programs with communities, companies and organizations in the Global South, focusing on promoting local production and fostering urban resilience while reducing social inequalities.
