Unfortunately, this year for the first time, re:publica is not recognised as educational leave. We cannot comply with the new regulations.

You have two options to join us for free:

  • Become a volunteer
Before, during and after re:publica we depend on the support of volunteers. As a volunteer, you will receive a three-day ticket in exchange for an 8-hour volunteer shift, including meals during your time of service. Volunteer accreditation is expected to start in March 2023.

  • Become a speaker
Our "Call for Participation" (CfP), offering you to submit your own talk, workshop, discussion panel or other activities, starts soon.

Furthermore, low-priced tickets are often sold on Twitter or Facebook [1][2]. Keep an eye on those channels or make yourself heard with a post!

(re:publica and republica GmbH are not responsible for privately resold tickets and/or the resale process).

Cancellation of tickets for re:publica 2023 is not possible.

In case re:publica 2023 cannot take place as planned, we will inform you about the possibilities of a refund in due time.

It is possible to transfer your #rp23 ticket. You can find information in our FAQ: How do I transfer my ticket to another person?

If yes, there's an email, you can use the link in that email to check whether your payment was successful or even change the payment method and try again.

  • Bag checks
A bag check will be carried out by our security service at the entrance.

We recommend that younger children are always accompanied and supervised by an adult. See also "Can I bring an accompanying person to re:publica?"

For each completed order, our ticket service provider creates an invoice. Of course, there can always be incorrect or incomplete data.

Incorrect or incomplete billing address? Typing error? Customer reference or VAT ID missing? No problem, use the link from the ticket order confirmation to easily correct the invoice data and issue a new invoice.

Note: This will create a new invoice number and at the same time create a cancellation invoice for the original one. The order number and content remains the same.

Of course you can! The easiest way is to buy a regular ticket for your companion. But there are other options as well:

  • Accompaniment for people with disabilities
The re:publica wants to be as accessible as possible for people with disabilities. We design the festival grounds to be as accessible as possible for people with disabilities and provide a variety of help and support. Unfortunately, however, not all barriers can be removed. People with disabilities can invite one accompanying person to re:publica free of charge. In exceptional cases, they can bring more than one person or different accompanying persons on different days. The famous "B" (accompanying person/"Begleitperson") in your ID card is not mandatory. Please contact us in advance via ticket at re-publica.com with your ticket number and a short explanation or a simple comment about your wish to have an "accompanying person". Make sure to contact us as soon as possible!

  • "Nanny" persons
If you are coming to re:publica with your child, it is possible to get access for a nanny (e.g. grandparent, parent, close friend) via ticket at re-publica.com. Deadline for registration: 22 May 2023.

  • Other accompanying persons
We want all participants to feel comfortable and safe at re:publica. If you need an accompanying person or animal, please contact us via ticket (at) re-publica.com. We kindly ask you to contact us as soon as possible!

As always, admission for accompanying persons can only be granted with a corresponding written confirmation from us. Please contact us well in advance so that there will be no problems at the entrance. Thank you!

To receive and view your ticket(s), follow the link in the order confirmation or payment receipt that you both received by email. After following the link, you can easily download or display your ticket as a PDF file.

Didn't receive any emails with a link? Please check your SPAM folder. Nothing there either? You are however sure that made a payment? Then please contact us with the proof of payment via e-mail ticket (at) re-publica.com.

Depending on the payment method selected, tickets are displayed directly or after the payment has been processed. With "Paypal" or credit card payment, this processing may be faster than prepayment.

If tickets are not displayed even though you have proof of payment, please email ticket (at) re-publica.com with the proof of payment.

Please note: Prepayments may take a few days to process.

Volunteers

From 30 March 2023 you can apply on our volunteer page and indicate your availability. You will also find more information there.

For example, we are looking for stagehands and support in the areas of accreditation, cloakroom, info point, technology and network. You can find a detailed explanation of all requirements and task profiles of the individual areas here and during the application process.

For the period from 2 to 10 June 2023 we are looking for volunteers to support us for the re:publica Berlin 2023. One shift lasts approx. 8 hours or approx. 2 x 4 hours (on 2 days).

On the day of your shift, you will have access to our  “Volunteer Lounge”, where drinks and snacks will be provided. You will also receive a hot meal.

We try to assign all volunteers to their preferred areas, but we cannot promise this. It is best to indicate several areas in which you would feel comfortable. If there is something you absolutely do not want to do, you can also indicate this in the form.

We will provide all the important information about re:publica 2023 in good time by email. You will receive a detailed briefing on your area of assignment at the volunteer meeting or before the start of your shift, which is why it is very important that you are there on time! You can also find out more about the areas of assignment on the volunteer page.

The “Volunteer Lounge” is the first point of contact for all volunteers. Here, someone from our team will always be available to answer your questions. In addition, we will give you the number of our volunteer telephone before your shift so that you can reach us at any time.

As a volunteer, you are not insured by republica GmbH during the entire event, but by your own health insurance.
In the event of property damage during set-up or dismantling of the event, republica GmbH's liability insurance will come into effect.

In this case, please contact us immediately so that we can reschedule. It's always better to cancel than say nothing and then not show up!

Send us an e-mail: volunteers (at) re-publica.com, or browse the FAQ on our website!

No, unfortunately we can no longer accept proposals for reasons of fairness.

The Call for Participation for Conference and Hands On is closed since February 14, 2023, for Off Stage since March 12, 2023.

However, in justified exceptions and at the discretion of the programme team, later submissions on daily developments may still be considered or may also be requested by the programme team.

We can only pay speaker fees in selected cases and up to a certain amount. These are agreed and negotiated individually. Basically, we differentiate as follows:

  • Speakers on our main stage who we invite for a keynote will receive a negotiated fee.
  • Speakers invited for panels and interviews curated by us will receive an expense allowance.
  • Speakers from the Call for Participation will not receive an honorarium, but will have access to the event on all three days of the festival (including catering).

Thanks to our partners and collaborations with other festivals, we also have the opportunity to receive funding for travel expenses and/or honorarium for individual speakers. Programme sessions that have been (financially) supported by sponsors and/or partners will be transparently marked in the programme.

All speakers involved in a session receive a 3-day ticket and catering on the day of their session / performance. Only for Meetups the rule is a bit different. Their performers receive a ticket for the day the Meetup takes place (without catering) and the option to purchase a reduced ticket for the other two days. Unfortunately, we cannot cover costs for travel, accommodation, honorarium of the contributors or for the moderation.

No. We do not cover travel and accommodation costs. All contributors will receive a re:publica ticket from us and thus access to #rp23 on all three festival days as well as catering on the day of the session. Here is a special feature for Meetups: Contributors to a Meetup receive a 1-day ticket without catering and the option to purchase a reduced ticket for the other two days.

Since #rp22, the programme is divided into four festival sections, where you can submit in Conference, Hands On and Off Stage. One submission is possible per section:

CONFERENCE

The re:publica conference programme includes everything that takes place on our stages: from panel discussions and talks, to interviews and fireside chats, to readings, lecture performances and much more.

HANDS ON

Whether it's a hardware or normal workshop, free tinkering, tinkering, gardening with robots, live biohacking or a TikTok dance tutorial: all sessions related to making and learning will find their place in the "Hands On" program. The contributions can be 60 minutes, 90 minutes or 120 minutes long (in exceptional cases even longer).

OFF STAGE

Flashmob, field test, installation, exhibition, concert, pop-up happening, science talk & walk, thematic guided tours, small or large artwork, augmented reality applications, games, water ballet and whatever else you can think of to occupy the #rp23 site and help shape our Off Stage program - artistic, activist, scientific, technological, informative.

NIGHTLIFE (will not be advertised separately to the CfP).

What would a festival be without music, dancing and partying? We turn the night into day! We are looking forward to musicians*, Dj-sets, karaoke organizers*, wrestlers*, musical producers* and everyone who wants to celebrate #rp23 with our participants* and their contributions.

CONFERENCE Session Formats

  • Lightning Talk: One speaker, 15-minute talk plus 15-minute Q&A.
  • Lecture: One or two speakers, 30 minutes or 1 hour including Q&A.
  • In Conversation With: two speakers without moderation, 45-minute talk plus 15-minute Q&A
  • Panel Discussion: maximum of three speakers plus moderator, 45-minute conversation plus 15-minute Q&A
  • Live Podcast: live production at the event, no time limit
  • Meet Up: Free format for casual exchange on an area of interest, light moderation by meet up organizers if necessary, 60 min

HANDS ON Session Formats

  • Workshop: intensive practical session with 1-2 workshop leaders.
  • Tutorial: intensive learning program with 1-2 workshop leaders
  • Dialogue format: e.g. fishbowl discussion, world café, speed geeking with moderation
  • Games: develop, try out or play a game together with others at the re:publica.

OFF STAGE Session Formats

  • Contest: Competition of any form
  • Screening: short or long, we have the screen for your film
  • Theater & Musical: acting project of any form
  • Special format: here is the place for surprising ideas

"Tracks" are general topic areas or guiding themes to which you can assign your submission. All "tracks" (categories) are defined at the beginning of the Call for Participation (CfP).

All "Tracks" (categories) are fixed at the beginning of the Call for Participation (CfP). This year there are the following tracks:

  • Technology and Science
  • Learning and Knowledge
  • Politics and Society
  • Net for Good
  • Spheres of Work
  • This is FUN.
  • Arts & Culture
  • Media
  • Urban spaces, rural spheres
  • Economy and Responsibility

For more information click here.

In order to curate the re:publica program in a balanced way, we put together a "track team" of external consultants for each track, who deal with the CfP submissions in the track and evaluate them. The track teams consist of 3-6 members, including representatives of the digital society, loyal friends of re:publica and experts in their field, as well as recurring speakers.

Here you can find our #rp23 Track Teams.

Of course! We welcome your volunteerism and interest! Write to the program team: programme@re-publica.com

At re:publica, we distinguish between stage hosts and moderators.

Stage hosts are hosting a stage for one day (the technical support is provided by our stage managers). They lead through the day,  programme points on and off and moderate the Q&A at the end of a session. They also announce changes in the schedule or point out highlights on the festival grounds.

If you would like to be a stage host at re:publica, please send us an email to: programme@re-publica.com.

Moderators conduct interviews, fire side chats or lead a discussion panel. This means that they are, just like the speakers, an elementary part of a session. We have a pool of moderators who have moderated at re:publica in the past.

If you would like to moderate a session with us, please send us an email (programme@re-publica.com) with some information about your previous moderation experience and the topics you are interested in. Depending on the size of the stage and the content, we have full professionals as well as talented amateurs.

That depends.

The re:publica programme consists of submissions from our Call for Participation (CfP), content from our partners, and programme content compiled and curated by our programme team.

  • CfP submissions should be complete by the submission deadline, i.e., in the case of discussion panels, interviews, and so on, please already include a moderator. If this is not the case, we recommend someone from our moderator pool (= the list of moderators from past re:publicas). As with all CfP submissions, we do not cover fees for moderation here.

  • Our partners can book programme slots. In consultation with our programme team, the content, speakers and moderators are jointly determined. The organization of the session is usually taken over by the respective partner, and thus also the costs for any fees or other expenses of the speakers and/or presenters involved. If necessary, we recommend moderators and establish contact. The commissioning and remuneration lies with the respective partner.

  • The re:publica programme team plans, curates and organizes the sessions on our main stage, important talks, interviews and panels on our thematic focal points, as well as programme content that we design together with co-curators from our community. We specifically request moderators for these cases. They usually come from our community and receive a small allowance based on the size of the stage and the complexity of the topic.

All our moderators receive access to all three days of the event as well as catering in the day of their moderation activity.

Each stage at re:publica will be hosted by a stage host. This means they announce the sessions, conduct the Q&As at the end and facilitate the transition over to the next contributors. In addition, our stage hosts inform the audience about important changes in the programme. They sand in an ongoing exchange with the programme team during re:publica.

Moderators lead the discussion or conversation in a session. This requires thorough preparation. We will put moderators in contact with the speakers - if not already done by the session leader - so that a preliminary discussion can take place.

Yes, their profiles will be linked to the respective sessions. We also accredit presenters and stage hosts as speakers at the entrance. Please note that a presenter will only be added to a session after prior consultation and confirmed availability.

The stage hosts come from our community and receive a small allowance based on the size of the stage. The exception is our main stage. For our biggest stage we hire and book our hosts and negotiate a reasonable fee.
